Since 1991, Kirk has appraised over a thousand agricultural properties throughout California and Arizona. He is highly experienced in the valuation of almond, pistachio and walnut orchards; wineries and vineyards; packing, processing and storage facilities; tree fruit and citrus; nursery and greenhouse facilities; and all types of open land (including irrigated cropland for fresh vegetables to natural grazing land). He has also evaluated extensive properties within Fresno and Kings Counties’ Westlands Water District and has provided market studies focused on those areas.

A significant portion of Kirk’s recent projects are related to the explosive development of premium vineyards, nut orchards, and processing/packing facilities throughout Central California. Appraisals for these projects are typically complex in nature, and frequently involve leasehold or leased fee estate holdings, prospective market values for immature or proposed permanent plantings, and/or Discounted Cash Flow analyses extending well into the future, such as with long-term development leases. Kirk is well-versed in the more recent impact that the Sustainable Groundwater Management Act (SGMA) is having on California land values, as micro-regions continue to develop and basins play a larger role in property valuations.

Over the course of his career, Kirk has performed appraisals for a large variety of clients, including virtually all providers of agricultural financing; publicly and privately-held corporations, complex partnerships and family-owned operations; major investors including insurance companies, pension funds and REITS; as well as federal, state and local governmental entities.  Kirk is highly experienced in providing fully compliant appraisals for lending purposes, sales price establishment, estate and tax planning and settlement, foreclosure and bankruptcy proceedings; marriage and partnership dissolution; and eminent domains. 

​In addition to his appraisal assignments, Kirk is frequently consulted on other high-value projects, such as long-term lease negotiations; fair market rent analyses, market sales trend analysis; and litigation and arbitration support.  Kirk holds the professional designation of Accredited Rural Appraiser (ARA), which is the highest appraisal designation of the American Society of Farm Managers and Rural Appraisers.  He is a graduate of California State University, Fresno.

  • Large collection of Kern County ranch properties encompassing over 3,300 acres utilized for tree fruit, dried-on-the-vine raisins, pistachios, cherry orchards and farmstead sites, appraised for lending purposes and portfolio monitoring
  • 150± acre, mixed-use permanent planting property in Madera County improved with fig, cherry, persimmon and pomegranate orchards and vineyard, appraised for a mortgage transaction and credit decision.
  • Over 100 acres of almond orchard, irrigated cropland and farm support buildings in Merced County, appraised for loan purposes and/or asset disposition
  • Thompson Seedless vineyard in Fresno County with an improved farmstead site, appraised for estate settlement purposes
