Brent Martin has appraised some of the largest and most complex properties in California, including a large array of nut orchards, premium vineyards, fully integrated dairy and livestock facilities, all types of tree fruit and citrus, packing and processing facilities, irrigated open land and natural grazing land.  A significant portion of Brent’s recent projects has been closely tied to the explosive development of premium vineyards and nut orchards throughout Central California. 

Brent is often tasked with appraising large ranch holdings, most notably for investment authorities and large farming operations. Much of his appraisal work involves the valuation of mixed-use properties, with multiple commodities of varying varieties and ages, as well as multi-use properties geared towards full integration, such as farmland with operating dairies, cold storage and processing facilities on-site. Brent is also recognized for his expertise in citrus valuations that include careful, well-thought analyses related to specialty versus traditional citrus, as he keeps up-to-date with new varieties and cultivars entering the marketplace.He is well-versed in the more recent impact that the Sustainable Groundwater Management Act (SGMA) is having on California land values, as micro-regions continue to develop and basins play a larger role in property valuations. With water at the forefront of current property values, Brent's clients depend on him stay of top of SGMA's ongoing impact.

Over the course of his career, Brent has performed appraisals for a large variety of clients, from virtually all providers of agricultural financing to individual landowners of family-owned operations. Brent is experienced in providing fully compliant appraisals for financing, purchase, and sale transactions; estate and tax planning; foreclosure and bankruptcy proceedings; marriage and partnership dissolution, sales price establishment, purchase price allocation, and much more. He has also been involved in providing litigation and arbitration support for his clients.

In addition to his appraisal work, Brent owns and operates an almond orchard in California’s San Joaquin Valley.  He raises cattle beef and is fully immersed in the ag way of life, both in and out of the office. Brent is a graduate of Stanford University.

Recent Appraisal Projects
  • Collection of six ranches across Kings, Tulare and Kern Counties totaling over 208,000 acres of pistachio orchards, irrigated cropland, tomato processing and other agri-industrial facilities, native rangeland, recreational and transitional land, appraised for internal asset management purposes
  • “As Is” and “As Proposed” valuation of a 670± acre raisin and wine grape vineyard in Fresno County, appraised under conditions related to a flood easement that ultimately affects the subject’s land use
  • “As Is,” “As Proposed,” and “As Mature” valuation of three Tulare County table grape ranches totaling over 1,100 acres, appraised under the condition that older vines are removed and redeveloped, capturing annual market values through maturity
  • Leased fee “As Is” and fee simple prospective market value appraisal of an irrigated open land property in Fresno County to be developed to Golden Hills pistachios, with yearly values developed through the orchard’s maturity
